The Indian auto giant Tata Motors on Thursday opposed the initiative on compensation taken by Calcutta High Court for the vesting land of West Bengal government vesting at Singur. The land was given to the company on lease by the government.

While Mr. S Pal, the counsel of Tata Motors Limited informed Justice I P Mukerji who is hearing the TML’s challenge of the Singur Land Rehabilitation and Development Act 2011. On the other hand, the state government has said that the compensation should be decided considering the principles laid down under section 23 and 24 of the Land Acquisition Act 1894.

Tata Motors had to shift its manufacturing unit for small car Nano from Singur in West Bengal to Sanad in Gujarat, about two years back due to a series of Mamta Banarjee Trinmool Congress led farmer’s agitations. The company has already shifted all the machinery from Singur to Sanad.

Meanwhile, The Company is planning to launch the diesel version of its Nano model in the Indian market. The launch of Nano diesel will further strengthen the position of Nano series of cars in the Indian market. The image of the Nano model has been severely hit by the few recent incidents of it catching fire in different cities of the country.
