Tata Aria, which hit the roads about 2 years back, despite having a good number of luxury features, could not lure buyers. This is mainly attributed to Aria's high price tag and looks which do not resemble a SUV. The company in order to increase the sales volume of Aria recently introduced a new low priced version of the car. However, that too failed in increasing the sales volume. Tata Motors now plans to relaunch the flagship crossover Aria with an image makeover so that the car does better this time.
Though it is not clear what all changes would be made to the car, it is expected that the company would make the price-cut permanent. Tata Aria is also likely to receive a minor facelift and its top end variant is expected to come with a 6 speed automatic transmission gearbox. Apart from it, Tata is likely to bring in a budget-end variant of the Aria 4x2 for the fleet operators and the taxi market.
Aria when relaunched would compete with the likes of Toyota Innova, which is priced between Rs. 9 lacs and Rs. 14 lacs. On the other hand Mini Aria would compete with Maruti Suzuki Ertiga priced between Rs. 5.90 lacs and Rs. 8.60 lacs. However, it would be good to see if the new strategy of Tata manages to increase the sales volume of Aria, which so far has failed to impress the Indian buyers.
