Ford Ecosport, which was showcased at the Delhi Auto Expo in January this year, has created a lot of curiosity among the car enthusiasts as to when this car would hit the roads. The car was even showcased at the 2012 Beijing Auto Show but the company did not give any hint about the launch of the car. It is, however, expected that the compact SUV will be launched in the country by the end of the current financial year.
While not much was known about this car until a few months ago a lot many things is now clear about this compact SUV. The car is based on the Fiesta platform and will come powered with a new 1.0 litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine capable of churning out a power as high as 116 bhp and 125 Nm of torque. The diesel version of the car is likely to follow after some time. The US Auto maker, Ford, claims that the car will deliver a mileage of 16 kmpl, which is quite good for a compact SUV.
The SUV will be manufactured in China at Ford's Chongguin plant and exported to other countries. It would come with a host of comfort and security features including side curtain airbags, ABS, traction control and ESP. EcoSport has been designed for those office goers who look for a car other than a sedan or a hatchback.
The compact SUV Ecosport is likely to come with a price tag of less than Rs. 10 lacs and will compete with the likes of Renault Duster.
