The state government of Haryana has approved the proposed Rs 2,000 crore manufacturing facility of the Indian unit of leading Japanese two-wheeler maker Suzuki Motorcycles in Rohtak. The new two-wheeler manufacturing facility of Suzuki will add one more leading global auto maker in the list of firms that already have manufacturing units in the state of Haryana. The leading auto giants like Honda, Hero MotoCorp and Harley Davidson already have their manufacturing units in Haryana.

The company will be investing in the Indian market in phased manner and in the initial phase a sum of Rs 500 crore will be invested over a period next three years (by 2014). The firm plans to have an initial capacity of five lakh unit per annum, which will be later on expanded in the third phase.

In the third phase of the investment Suzuki Motorcycle India plans to have a total manufacturing capacity of 20 lakh units by year 2019. The company is aiming to grab a major chunk of the rapidly growing Indian two-wheeler segment by aggressively expanding its production capacity as well as sales and service network in the Indian market.

The approval of this investment came in a meeting between the company and state government, which was presided by state Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda. The new plant of the company will go on production by 2014.
