The country’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki has denied of any plans to stop car manufacturing operations at its Gurgaon based facility, saying that the statement given related to this matter was misunderstood by the media persons.

A number media reports in the Indian market had claimed that that the company is planning to shift entire production work of its Gurgaon and Manesar based facilities to the proposed Gujarat plant. The reports had further claimed that the company is looking forward to make Gurgaon and Manesar facilities its component manufacturing hub.

Speaking to the reporters on Monday, the company Chairman, Mr. R C Bhargava said, "What we did say was that out of the three assembly lines at Gurgaon, we would shut down one line by 2015, reducing the installed capacity to 5 lakh cars, as against 7.2 lakh at present. In the space which would become available we would install our new diesel engine plant with a capacity of 3 lakh engines and also make components."

However, the company has said that the car manufacturing capacity at the Gurgaon plant will be reduced to expand the engine manufacturing facility at this plant. The company statement adds that the car manufacturing capacity expansion plans at the Manesar plant are on track and the company will go ahead with the plans of establishing third plant at Manesar facility.
