Nissan India, the Indian unit of the Japan’s one of the largest car makers Nissan Motors, is planning to launch an automatic transmission version of its recently introduced mid-size sedan Skoda Rapid in the Indian market very soon. The new Nissan Sunny Automatic will be rolled-out in the in the country in the first quarter of year 2013.

However, the cost factor may force the company to launch only petrol version of the car in the automatic version as the diesel version is already quite expensive in the manual version. The company will be using the basic Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) 'box, in order to keep the cost down, which in turn will help the firm in positioning the car more competitively in terms of price in the Indian market.

As far as price tag is concerned, the Nissan Sunny Automatic is expected to be about Rs 80,000 to Rs 90,000 expensive as compared to the manual transmission version of the car in petrol version. The major competitor of the car will be Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire automatic which currently carries the tag of cheapest automatic saloon in the Indian market.
