Rolls Royce has great reputation in the market for producing luxury cars. However, a recent development may cause negative impact on the image of the brand. Around 74 units of Rolls Royce Phantom model sold by the company between 2003 and 2009 were recalled by the British car maker. Due to the chances of an oil leak in the power braking system, these models have been recalled.

The owners of the company are quite disappointed as they feel that such problem should never arise in a premium car like the Roller. 36 units of Ghost Sedan were also recalled by the company, which were sold between 2009 and 2011. The sedans were reported to have a major glitch with the turbo cooling pump, which was bound to develop cracks causing the coolant to seep into the electronics and cause a fire.

Clients whose cars have been called off are not too happy with company's decision as they have not witnessed any braking issue. However, the company is adamant as they do not want to take any chance, even though this step may cause a dent in company's reputation.

In one of his review, Stephen Corby, the editor of the top automotive magazine “Top Gear”, said, “I drove one of the cars that's been recalled I believe, a Drophead Phantom, and it was probably the most, in some ways the most spectacular car I've ever driven. The sense of being in it while you are watching a movie because there is no sound that comes through of an engine, you can't hear anything, you can't feel the bumps in the road as if you're just gliding over everything and all you can see people's faces being contorted with a mixture of shock and joy as they stare at you."

Speaking on the RR recall, he quoted, "Car companies generally are very, very cautious about this kind of thing. If there is the slightest chance of something going wrong they do a recall, but generally they'll just concern a certain model whereas this is across their entire range.” He said that the company feel that after spending up to half a million dollars on a luxury car, customers are bound to expect perfection.

Stephen Corby, further added, “That is why it is such a surprise, because Rolls Royce are engineered to the nth degree. There is probably more engineering in them than the space shuttle, so it is an enormous surprise that they would make a mistake like this or that even that there is a chance of a mistake."
