Carlos Ghosn, chairman of the Renault-Nissan alliance has revealed that the company will be introducing more cars on the Datsun Redi-Go CMF-A (Common Module family) platform. This means that the company will introduce more body types – sedan, crossover, hatchback, etc. based on this platform.
At the 2016 New York Auto Show, Ghosn acknowledged the fact that low-cost cars have been generating impressive sales numbers. Owing to a common platform usage, we can expect that the cars will be offered at a lucrative price tag and help the brand claim a considerable share in the Indian market. The Kwid also shares the same platform. Once the new low-cost models are introduced, customers will have more options to choose from.
The upcoming Nissan Redi-Go will be introduced in a petrol variant. It might be powered by either an 800cc engine borrowed from the Kwid or a 1.2-litre engine. The engine will come mated to a five-speed manual transmission. The Redi-Go will compete against the likes of Maruti Alto and Hyundai Eon in India.
