Nissan Micra, the Japanese car maker’s hatchback, has turned out to be the most exported model from the Indian market in 2014-15, according to reports. Though the hatchback is not among the bestsellers in the Indian domestic market, Nissan Micra is the leader in exports with 76,120 units.

While Nissan Micra occupied first position on the list, Hyundai Grand i10 and Volkswagen Vento were second and third, respectively. Hyundai’s Grand i10 has been a top performer ever since its launch and did equally well in the domestic market. The story of Volkswagen Vento is similar to Grand i10 but not same in terms of statistics. Other cars present in top 10 list for exports from India are Nissan Sunny and Hyundai i20.

South Korean manufacturer Hyundai kept its title of being India’s number one exporter intact by having three models in the top ten. Hyundai was followed by Maruti Suzuki and Ford, both of which had two models each on the list. Models exported by Maruti Suzuki were Alto 800 and A-Star while Ford’s cars were Figo and EcoSport.

The performance of Ford’s much celebrated compact utility vehicle declined in the export market as compared to last year. Another pattern that came out of this list was the high demand of petrol cars in other countries. A large number of cars exported were petrol models with Nissan Micra, Ford EcoSport and Hyundai Grand i10 leading the way. To put things in a nutshell, 6,22,470 vehicles were exported from India during the period 2014-15, thereby registering an increase of 4.42 per cent from 2013-14.
