Toyota Innova has been a top seller for a long time, not only for the Japanese car maker but in the Indian market as well. This Multi-purpose Vehicle is the highest selling model for Toyota in India and the firm has done incredibly well to keep it going that way. However, for any product to withstand the onslaught of time, it needs to deliver on two accounts – quality and innovation. A report by Autocar claims that Toyota is planning to replace the current version with a new one, which will feature a fresh design language and features.
The new Toyota Innova is expected to come with a new design that will be somewhat similar to a model like 2014 Corolla Altis. One thing that will be a surety is the exit of the existing design, which will make way for a fresher and more exciting theme.
According to the report, the new Innova is likely to get a new nose that is hugely different to the one in the current model. The bonnet of the new Innova is also going to undergo a change and the “MPV” element will be reduced a lot. Another feature that is expected to change drastically will be the windscreen. The new Innova is likely to have chrome bars running through headlights, thereby giving the car less of a van look. The primary reason behind the change in design by Toyota is their endeavour to woo private owners as Innova is presently viewed as a taxi by many.
A new version of Toyota’s IMV platform is likely to be employed in building the new Innova. Without making a lot of changes, Toyota is expected to provide a lighter chassis in the new model. Toyota Innova is expected to feature a couple of mechanical upgrades as well and the 2.5-litre D4D engine could be replaced by the 2KD-FTV powertrain.
