Nissan Motors India Pt. Ltd., India, the Indian unit of the leading Japanese car maker Nissan, said on Friday that it has registered a sales jump of 10.8 percent in the month of August 2011. The company sold a total of 1,384 units of its cars in the Indian market in August as compared to 1,249 units sold in the same month last year.

According to a statement given by NMIPL Managing Director & CEO Kiminobu Tokuyama, "The current slower market growth is impacting the overall industry, but Nissan is expecting a fast sales boost with the launch of the much awaited Nissan Sunny."

The sales of company’s only compact hatchback in the country – Nissan Micra – surged to 1,345 units during this month as compared to 1,182 units sold in the same month preceding year. The Micra model was launched in the Indian market in July last year. The car is currently competing with the likes of Maruti Swift and Ritz, Ford Figo, Volkswagen Polo, Chevrolet Beat, Hyundai i20, etc.

The remaining 39 units include the sales of company’s luxury segment vehicles like sports Utility vehicle (SUV) X-Trail, Sports car Nissan 370Z and premium luxury sedan Nissan Teana.

Meanwhile, Nissan is all set to launch an all new entry level sedan – Nissan Sunny - in the Indian auto market in a few weeks. The Sunny sedan will be carrying a different name in the country and is expected to be shelved in the price range of Rs 7 to 8 lakh.
