The Nissan Evalia, which made its debut in Europe in the autumn of 2009 might now soon start being used there as a taxi. While Evalia, also called as NV 200, has already become the official taxi in New York, it might soon replace the widely popular London taxi too. The Evalia replaced the Crown Victoria in New York and it might come as a replacement for TX4 London taxi in the near future; however, the classic TX4 has a large number of fans and it would be good to see if NV 200 can win the hearts of Londoners. On the other hand, Nissan also plans to launch its light commercial vehicle NV 200 as a taxi in Spain very soon.
The Evalia, which is known for its reliability, better fuel economy and ample amount of space, will have to compete against the widely popular TX4 taxis that are manufactured by the London Taxi Company. Nissan is already eyeing the London market and is, therefore, highlighting the Evalia's diesel variant to be the replacement for the TX4. The company has said that the NV200 has all the features that are found in TX4, apart from many other features.
The diesel variant of the popular Evalia houses a 1.5-litre K9K turbo diesel engine capable of delivering a maximum power of 89 bhp at 240 Nm torque. Not only does the 1.5 litre K9K engine offers more power than the TX4, but it also has much lesser emissions than the TX4. Moreover, the NV 200 is cheaper than the TX4. For these reasons, it is expected that the NV200 might come as a replacement for the classic London taxi.
The Evalia has sliding doors which facilitate in entering and exiting the car. The panoramic view of the NV200 will also provide the good view of the city. The company also has plans to introduce a completely new electric variant, which at present is under development. Nissan has said that the NV200 would serve as an ideal taxi for London and that the electric variant would help in reduction of CO2 in the city.
