The next generation 3-Series, from the stables of BMW, which will be unveiled in January next year at the Detroit Auto Show, apart from having some new features will also get a new name. The company has decided to rename the next generation 3-Series and convertible to 4-Series, which is believed to be a part of their marketing strategy. The 4-Series Coupe is expected to be launched in global market by mid-2013 and the 4-Series convertible is likely to hit roads by the end of 2013. The launch of these models would be followed by BMW X4 crossover that would make its debut in the US in early 2014.

The 3-Series is a compact executive car from the stables of the German car maker BMW and has been present in the global market since 1975. The 3-Series is the company's best selling model and accounts for nearly 30 per cent of BMW's overall annual sales. The car ever since its launch has been the recipient of many awards.

The first generation BMW 3-Series was launched in 1975 and was a popular car until the launch of second generation in 1983. The third generation BMW 3-Series made its debut in 1991 and continued till the year 2,000. The fourth, fifth and the sixth generation were launched in the year 1998, 2005 and 2012 respectively. Now the next generation BMW 3-Series, with a new name, is slated to be launched next year.
