The smaller size Maruti Swift Dzire model, which will be a new generation version of the current model of the car, is expected to be launched in the Indian market by February 2012. The car is likely to be a show stopper at the Maruti platform at the upcoming Delhi Auto Expo in the month of January 2012.

The new 2012 Maruti Swift Dzire is much awaited among the car enthusiast in the Indian market, as the car will not only be smaller in size, but will also be cheaper by about Rs 50,000 to 60,000 as compared to the existing model of the car.

Maruti Suzuki India has decreased the length of the car to below 4 meters, so that it can qualify for the lesser excise duty segment. At present, the cars with length of over four meters and engine of 1.5L diesel or 1.2 liter petrol, attracts an excise duty of over 22 percent. Thus, by decreasing the length of the car below 4 meters, the applicable excise duty will go down to 11 percent. To make the car short, its large boot space is likely to be compromised.

After the cut-down in length, Maruti Swift Dzire will continue to be available in both petrol and diesel versions, powered by 1.2L K series petrol engine and 1.3L diesel engine, respectively. The new Dzire is expected to surpass the success achieved by its current version, as it will be compact in size and cheaper in price. The car will be taking on with the likes of Toyota Etios, Nissan Sunny, Ford Ikon, Hyundai Accent and Tata Indigo CS.
