New-gen Skoda Superb spied testing; Launch in 2016

The third-generation Skoda Superb has been spied testing in Aurangabad ahead of its launch in 2016. The premium sedan made its global debut in Prague’s Forum Karlin earlier this year.

2016 Skoda Superb Front Spied

Based on the VW’s MQB platform, the 2016 Skoda Superb will be 28mm longer, 47mm wider, and more spacious than the existing model. Though, the front overhang has been reduced by 61mm. With a coupe-like design, the new-gen Superb will feature new headlamps with daytime running lights, modified bumpers, signature grille, windows with chrome lining, 5-spoke alloy wheels, a shark fin antenna and revised tail lamps.

2016 Skoda Superb Rear Spied

For the European market, the Superb will be available with five petrol - 1.4-litre (125PS and 150PS), 1.8-litre (180PS), 2.0-litre (220PS and 280PS) and three diesel – 1.6-litre (120PS), 2.0-litre (150PS) and 2.0-litre (190PS) - engine options. Transmitting power to the front wheels will be a 6-speed manual or a DSG (direct-shift gearbox) automatic gearbox. This EU6 compliant engine lineup is expected to be 30% more frugal than the outgoing model, thanks to the modular platform and improved aerodynamics. The India-bound model of the Superb is likely to get a 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine with a DSG transmission. The existing 1.8-litre TSI engine might also be on offer.

Features on offer could be Skoda’s SmartLink entertainment system with navigation and reverse camera, dual or tri zone climate control, cruise control, electrically operated panoramic tilt and slide sunroof, powered seats, cornering lights, rain and light sensors and Bi-Xenon headlights. A star-stop system will come as standard feature.
