Tata Motors is re-assessing its plans to deliver the world’s cheapest car to maximum number of customers. It intends to set up independent assembly units that will assemble the cars under close supervision of the company. The company will not only be able to deliver more cars to its customers but will also be able to cut down operational costs like transportation, excise and sales tax outgo.

"Tata Motors has repeatedly said that the company has an idea, under which it will explore assembly of the Tata Nano by independent entrepreneurs," said a company spokesperson. Tata Motors currently manufactures 100 units per day and intends to step up the production to at least 150 units per day soon. As the Pantnagar facility is not capable of doing the same, it intends to allow independent entrepreneurs to allow using their names along with Nano logo for assembling Nano.

Tata Nano’s mother plant in Sanand is not expected to be operational before March next year. It will be further expanded later on to step up production 350,000 units annually.

Meanwhile, British Deputy High commissioner Mrs. Vicki Treadell purchased a Tata Nano LX. Ratan Tata, the Chairman of the Tata Group handed over the keys of the Nano to Mrs. Treadell. The Nano LX has the British Union Jack flag on its roof.
