      German car maker Mercedes-Benz has always been at the forefront of technology and innovation in the world of automobile. One of the main things it focuses on is security and the Daimler-owned firm certified that by announcing plans of starting a crash testing unit located in Sindelfingen, Germany. Sources claim that this facility, which is one of the most advanced in the world, will starting operating by the year 2016. According to sources, this facility has a test arena without pillars in the centre. This arena is responsible for carrying out tests based on scenarios and situations that have been presumed.

      Speaking about this technology facility, Director for Body and Safety at Mercedes-Benz Cars Development, Thomas Merker, said, "The new Technology Centre for Vehicle Safety (TFS), the world's most advanced crash test facility, will enable us in future to carry out all crash tests on our own premises – not just more crash tests due to the growing product range, but also crash tests with future, new configurations."

      A report by Autocar claims that the Stuttgart-based firm is looking to improve the driver assistance systems through this development. In addition, it will also be used as a site for crash testing of commercial vehicles.
