Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), the largest car maker in the country, is all set to showcase its much awaited and much talked about multi utility vehicle Ertiga at the upcoming Delhi International auto expo in the month of January 2012. Besides Ertiga MPV, the company will also display a concept SUV based on the modified Swift platform. Both of these models are expected to attract a large number of car enthusiasts at this mega event.
Powered by 1.3l DDIS engine, the same engine, which it is sourcing form Italian car maker Fiat for its other portfolio cars, the Maruti Ertiga will be capable of delivering a peak power of 90 PS. The Ertiga model will be taking on with the segment leader Innova which has been registering volume sales since its launch in the country. With cost efficient manufacturing, Maruti is expected to price this MUV very competitively in the range of 7 to 8 lakh.
At present, the utility vehicle segment accounts for 9 percent share of the total sales of Indian passenger vehicle segment. However, despite having a market share of 45-50 percent, Maruti doesn’t have any model in this segment. The company plans to add a considerable number of SUVs and MUVs in its India portfolio by year 2015.
