Maruti Suzuki India is gearing up for the launch of much-awaited Suzuki S-Cross SX4 crossover, which was showcased at the 2014 Delhi Motor Show. The vehicle has been spotted several times during its test rounds on Indian roads.
If media reports are to be believed, the S-Cross will be sold as Maruti Suzuki Across in the country.In order to make it compatible for the Indian market, the company has made several changes to the car.
Talking about its design, the crossover features high ground clearance, black cladding all around and metal scuff guards at the front and rear end, which gives it a rugged SUV-like appeal. It is expected that the company could introduce the 'Allgrip all-wheel drive system with the SUV; however, nothing has been confirmed on the same.The vehicle also gets 16-inch alloy wheels and LED daytime running lamps.
The Across is expected to be offered in two diesel engines- 1.6-litre four-cylinder and 1.3L MJD. The former is good for 118bhp of power while the 1.3L unit produces 91bhp of power. Power is transmitted to front wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox. It is expected to be priced around Rs. 13-14 lakh, and will rival against the likes of Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano and upcoming Hyundai ix25.
Other than the Across, Maruti Suzuki is planning to launch the YRA premium hatchback in the country this year.
