As reported earlier, local arm of General Motors has proclaimed its plans to begin export of its cars to overseas market. From its portfolio, compact hatchback, Beat will be the first model to be exported to Chile. However, in future the company will plan on shipping other models too. The production of Beat to be exported to Chile will begin from second half of 2014 at the company’s manufacturing unit located in Talegaon, Maharashtra. However,Beat will officially be made available for sale in Chile by early 2015.
The hatchback will be built and sold as a left hand drive version available in both petrol as well as diesel engine options. Chevrolet’s Beat is available for sale in domestic market along with other global markets. In India the hatchback was introduced in 2010 in petrol variant only followed by the diesel version in 2011.
One of the critical reasons for manufacturing Beat for Chile at the Talegaon unit is the proper utilization of its production capacity that has not been utilized properly for the past few months due to low demand for GM India cars in domestic market. Apart from Talegaon unit, the company also has a manufacturing unit in India located in Halol, Gujarat.
