Introduced five months ago in domestic market, 2014 Mercedes Benz S-Class opened to an overwhelming response. However, the company back then launched only the petrol version of the saloon, S 500 and is now readying to roll out diesel version of its flagship, S-Class, dubbed S 350 CDI in the domestic market on June 5, 2014. Mercedes Benz dealers are accepting bookings for the new S-350 CDI at a token amount of Rs 5 lakh, though deliveries of the new S-350 CDI are expected to begin from end of next month.
Powering the S 350 CDI will be a 3.0 litre V6 engine that generates 255 Bhp of maximum power along with a top torque of 620 Nm. A 7G-Tronic Plus automatic transmission transmits the power to the rear wheels. The robust engine enables the vehicle to sprint from 0 to 100 kmph within 6.8 seconds and touches the top speed mark of 248 kmph.
In comparison to the S 500, the diesel variant will come devoid of many features like the vehicle will get Burmester sound system but it will not be bestowed with the 3D surround system. Other features that will go missing in S-350 CDI include heated/cooled cup holders, centre armrest and tables at the rear seat. Preeminent features like night vision camera is also not equipped in the S-350 CDI, but it will get the 360 degree reversing camera.
Among the safety features, the vehicle is equipped with prominent features like eight airbags, Dynamic cornering control system, adaptive brake with hold function, anti-slip regulation and several others.
Mercedes Benz will assemble the new S-350 CDI at its manufacturing unit located in Chakan, Pune. Local assembling will also enable the luxury car maker to cut down on the price a tad, for now an expected price ranging between Rs 1 crore to Rs 1.2 crore is being speculated for the upcoming S-350 CDI.
