      Increase BMW Sales Boosts BMW X1 Popularity

      The company registered a 16.5% rise in revenue to EUR17.888 billion in the second quarter of the year 2011 as against EUR15.348 billion in the same period in the year 2010. The group net profit of BMW rose to EUR1,809 million from EUR834 million in the corresponding period last year. During the same period, the company also witnessed an increase in car sales by 18.5% to 450,608 units compared to 380,412 units in the year 2010. The company registered a 16.5% rise in revenue to EUR17.888 billion in the second quarter of the year 2011 as against EUR15.348 billion in the same period in the year 2010. “We are aiming to achieve a record-breaking increase in sales volume by over 10% to a new high of more than 1.6 million vehicles. We are well on track to remain the world’s leading manufacturer of premium cars” said CEO Norbert Reithofer.

      In the second quarter of 2011, automotive segment of the company also registered 22% growth to EUR16,674 million as compared to EUR13,669 million during the same time in 2010. Second-quarter Motorcycles segment revenues increased by 2.5% to EUR450 million compared to EUR439 million during the corresponding period. The company forecasts a significant rise in the volumes of sales in the year 2011 as compared to 2010. The estimated increase in vehicles sales volume is expected to reach 10%  to over 1.6 million in the year 2011.

      The company expects vehicle sales to reach 1.8 million by the year 2012. It is estimated that introduction of  BMW X1 crossover, a Mini SUV, BMW Gran Turismo, and two new Rolls-Royce models would enable BMW to reach the target. The company plans to increase its production capacity of the South Carolina facility to 240,000 vehicles per annum by 2012, the Mini plant in Oxford to 260,000 units per annum and the Chinese unit from 30,000 units to 44,000 units per annum.

      BMW X1, known for its well-organized dynamic technology, is a new addition to X model of BMW. The brake energy renewal, optimized aerodynamics, optimum shift indicator, and on-demand use of ancillary units, are some of the distinct dynamic technologies used in BMW X1.The compact luxury was introduced in the India in the fourth quarter of 2010. The X1 has been launched in three variants including X1 sDrive20d (diesel), X1 sDrive18i (petrol) and X1 sDrive20d Exclusive (diesel). The new X1 is one of the cheapest BMW cars in the Indian market and the company is expecting drive high volumes sales from this SUV. It will be fighting for space with the likes of Honda CR-V, Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, Mitsubishi Outlander, Chevrolet Captiva and Nissan X-Trail.

      A sloping rear windscreen and short overhangs provides the new BMW X1 with a sporty and elegant road presence. The distinctive three-eye look of front headlights and L-shaped tail-lights makes the car expressive through-out its length. Inside, the car is ergonomically designed and carries a driver oriented cockpit. The seating position has been raised to offer a good overview. Both the driver and passenger seats are electrically adjustable in this car. The top diesel variant comes equipped with a panorama glass sunroof. A subwoofer under the front seat in combination with an eight-loudspeaker HiFi system offers amazing surround sound. The full-proof safety of the passengers as well as of the car has been ensured with the help of a new generation steel body that absorbs forces in the deformation zones. Crash-activated headrests and multiple airbags further enhance the passenger safety.
