The much-awaited Hyundai ix25 has been spotted testing ahead of its launch during festive season. The company has invested Rs. 1,000 crores to achieve high-level of localization (nearly 90%), which will help the automaker price the compact SUV competitively against rivals.

Coming to the design, the ix25 is based on the evolved Fluidic 2.0 design philosophy, and takes its design inspiration from the Santa Fe and the new Sonata. The car shares several components with the new i20 hatchback. Features like LED daytime running lights, four airbags, ABS (anti-lock braking system) and EBD (electronic brake-force distribution) might be available with the car. Though most of these advanced features might come with the top-of-the-line variant only. The compact SUV measures 4, 270mm in length, 1, 780mm in width and 1, 630mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2, 590mm.

The all-new Hyundai ix25 might be offered in three engine options - a 1.6-litre petrol, 1.6-litre diesel and a 1.4-litre diesel. All these powertrains will be borrowed from the Verna sedan. A 5-speed manual and a 6-speed manual transmissions will be on offer. The Chinese-spec model of the compact sedan is available with a 1.6-litre and a 2.0-litre petrol engines mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The company sells the car's 4WD version as well in the Chinese market, though there is no clarity whether we'll have this model in India or not.

Set to rival against the Nissan Terrano, Renault Duster, Mahindra Scorpio and the upcoming Maruti SX4 S-Cross, the Hyundai ix25 is likely to be priced within the range of Rs. 8 lakh – Rs. 10 lakh (ex-showroom).
