Renault India recently unveiled the much-awaited Kwid hatchback, which is based on an all new platform, the CMF-A, which is jointly developed by Renault and Nissan. The same platformwill also underpin the Datsun Redi-Go hatchback, which will go on sale in 2016.Despite sharing the platform with the Renault Kwid , the Redi-Go hatchback will not be a cross-badged product as it will carry an all-new design.
According to ZigWheels, Datsun will unveil the pre-production model of the Redi-Go hatchback (Codenamed I2) at the 2016 Delhi Motor Show. And it will take its design inspiration from the Datsun redi-GO concept that was unveiled at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo.
Along with the platform, the redi-Go will also share its engine with the Renault Kwid. The small car will be powered by a newly developed 800cc three-cylinder petrol engine, which is likely to produce about 50PS of power and 90Nm of torque. This engine is also claimed to return best-in-class fuel efficiency. Just like the Renault Kwid, the Datsun I2 hatch will also come equipped with a five-speed manual transmission and an automated manual transmission (AMT).
The Datsun redi-Go hatchback will rival against the likes of the Maruti Alto 800/K10, Hyundai Eon, Chevrolet Spark and the Renault Kwid. It is expected to be priced in the range Rs. 3 lakh to Rs. 4 lakh.
