Honda that recently released the first design sketches of its upcoming compact SUV – the BR-V – will launch it in Indonesia by early 2016. The production-version of the Honda BR-V is expected be showcased at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo in February.

Based on the official sketches, here's the rendered image of the crossover that suggests that the car will get some styling cues from the Mobilio. The BR-V will sport a robust body-build and high ground clearance that will surely make it more capable for the Indian road conditions. Based on the Honda Brio’s platform, the crossover will feature projector headlights, skid plates, large wheel arches, body cladding and roof rails. Powering the Honda BR-V is a 1.5-litre petrol and a 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engine that will be mated to two “advanced transmissions”. The former is claimed to offer “sporty performance and great fuel efficiency”.

The new-gen utility crossover BR-V has been developed by Honda R&D Asia Pacific Co., Ltd. (HRAP) in Thailand. According to reports, it will be first launched in the Asian markets, and could also be exported to South Africa at a later stage. The crossover will make its global debut at the 2015 Gaikinodo Indonesian International Auto Show in August.

Upon its India launch, the Honda BR-V will rival the Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano, Mahindra Scorpio and the upcoming Hyundai Creta. It is expected to be offered within the price bracket of Rs. 7 lakh – Rs. 10 lakh (ex-showroom).
