Fiat that launched the Abarth 595 Competizione in India today, has also unveiled its second Abarth offering - the Punto Abarth hatchback. Unlike the former, the Punto Abarth will be manufactured locally at the company’s Ranjangaon production plant.

Designed for the Indian market, the Punto Abarth will feature a front grille with contrast horizontal slats, signature Scorpion badges, secondary air dam, rear ORVMs, a new pair of alloy wheels and sporty rear bumper. The hatchback will draw its interior design inspiration from the Punto diesel (90bhp). Though, the regular Fiat badges will be replaced with the Scorpion badges. Other interior updates are revised seat upholstery with contrast red and yellow stitching, machined pedals, etc.

While the exterior and interior updates are minimal, the more comprehensive changes have been made under the hood. The Punto Abarth will be powered by a 1.4-litre T-Jet turbocharged petrol engine that also does duty to the Linea sedan. Though, Fiat has tuned this engine for extra power. It is expected to deliver an estimated power of 135bhp and a torque around 200Nm. Transmission on offer will be a 5-speed manual.

The company has also tweaked the suspension unit of the hatchback. The ride height, too, has been reduced by 20mm. This will certainly help the car handle the extra power, and deliver better performance. The Punto Abarth will continue to ride on the 16-inches alloy wheels that come fitted with 195/55 R16 Apollo tyres.
