With the New Toyota Camry Hybrid launched in India in April 2015, it has been a happy story for the automaker. The car has been able to sell 280 cars within 50 days of its launch and has about 125 pending orders. This plush car has been able to garner such a response only after the manufacturer gave the previous version a facelift and added a few changes in the mechanism. The new car comes with Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive powertrain which takes help from the high torque electric motor and a 2.5 litre Atkinson Cycle four cylinder engine.

The car also comes with Electronically Controlled Continuous Variable Transmission which helps in limiting the fuel consumption and enhance the performance of the car. This technology lets the car flaunts its superior fuel economy in this class of 19.6 kmpl.

The new model also comes with a facelift. It has a new lower grille and new LED headlights. The bumper looks a little different too and the wheels get a sporty look with the newly fitted alloy wheels. Two variants for the car have been launched; one is the Camry petrol and Camry Hybrid. The output of the petrol version is 158bhp and 213 NM while that of the Hybrid version is 202 bhp and 233 Nm.

The other factor that has worked in the favour of the new Toyota Camry is the government’s incentive plan, FAME, which gives a relaxation of Rs. 70,000. The company has passed on this incentive to the buyers, bringing down the total price of Camry Hybrid from Rs. 31,92,000/- to Rs. 31,22,000/-.

It is a good news for Toyota India. This event also marks a glad acceptance of Hybrid models by the Indian car buyers.
