      Maruti Suzuki's Y9T pickup might be named Super Carry

      The country’s largest automaker, Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) is planning to launch several new models and facelifts in this financial year. The company will also enter some new segments, including the sub-compact crossover, sub-compact SUV, sub-compact MPV and premium hatchback. The Indo-Japanese carmaker will also bring-in an LCV (light commercial vehicle) - the ‘Y9T’ (codename) – that will be based on the Suzuki Carry pickup. In fact, the company has already started testing the vehicle in India.

      Seen here are the spyshots of the production-ready ‘Y9T’ LCV that features the signature Suzuki logo and a ‘Super Carry’ badge. On the rear end, the pickup gets ‘Maruti Suzuki’ badge and a ‘CNG’ sticker. This confirms that the company will name it – Super Carry – and it will be available in CNG fuel option. The CNG variant is reported to be powered with a 1.2-litre petrol engine.

      Powering the Super Carry diesel will be a new 0.8-litre, twin cylinder DDiS engine that also does duty to the Celerio hatchback. This engine is capable to produce a maximum power of 47bhp and 125Nm of torque. It claims to return the best-in-class fuel efficiency of 27.62kmpl.

      Set to rival the Tata Ace, the Maruti Suzuki Super Carry will be manufactured at the company’s Gurgaon-based production plant. The diesel version of the Super Carry is expected to be priced at Rs.4 lakh (ex-showroom), while the CNG variant will be offered within the price bracket of Rs. 4.5 lakh – Rs. 5 lakh (ex-showroom).
