General Motors has released the first images of the Chevrolet Bolt prototype that will be manufactured at the company’s Orion assembly plant in Michigan. The images look identical to the Chevrolet Bolt Concept, which was previewed at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show in January. The company has defined the Bolt as “the game-changing, next-generation all-electric vehicle”.

Chevrolet says that it will bring electric vehicles for masses at global level by the end of 2015. The company also promises to provide technology solutions for improving customers' lives and driving fun. For the international markets, the electric vehicles that the automaker has launched or unveiled this year are the Mailbu Hybrid, Bolt EV, 2016 Volt and FNR Concept. GM claims that the Bolt will offer a range over 321.86kms on a single charge, thanks to its lightweight body-built and aerodynamic design.

The Bolt’s lightweight body uses lots of aluminum material, carbon fiber, woven mesh and magnesium. Designed to support DC (direct current) charging, the hatchback might come with selectable driving modes. The Chevrolet Bolt is likely to be priced around Rs. 19.08 lakh.

GM hasn’t yet confirmed the details and launch date of the Bolt hatchback. If reports are to be believed the production of the car will be commenced from October, 2016, and it will go on sale in the US in late 2016 or early 2017.

For people not in the know, Chevrolet will launch a couple of new cars in the Indian market as well, including the Spin MPV and Trailblazer SUV.
