BMW India, the luxury car maker, has implemented a price hike across its all models with effect from 1st January 2013. This would applicable to both BMW as well as Mini products. However, the company expects to maintain its numero uno position in the Indian luxury car market despite the increase.
Commenting on the price rise, Philipp von Sahr, President of BMW Group India said, “The success of BMW Group India has always been built on long-term thinking and responsible action. We want to maintain sustainable leadership in the Indian market with a strong brand and an exceptional model range with unbeatable product substance. With the price increase BMW Group will maintain its premium positioning in the Indian luxury car segment.”
BMW cars that are locally manufactured at the Chennai plant includes 3 Series, 5 Series, X1 and X3. Other models like 6 Series Coupe, 6 Series Convertible, 6 Series Gran Coupe, X5, X6, Z4 and Grand Toursimo are brought to country as CBUs (Completely Built Units). All Mini vehicles are also available as CBUs. 2013 is expected to witness the arrival of new BMW 7 Series, X1 and the 1 Series. The 7 Series model would be locally manufactured by mid 2013 and 1 Series by the end of 2013.
Presently, the car maker operates in the country with its 33 sales outlets, which are expected to reach 50 before the end of 2014.
