Maruti Suzuki India Limited has revealed its all new compact Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) concept that might be showcased at the upcoming Auto Expo. The compact SUV concept is similar to Suzuki Jimny SUV that is available in the global markets and is expected to replace Suzuki’s Jimny and Gypsy. Both the SUVs, Jimny and Gypsy, have not been upgraded for quite a long time and do not possess many advanced features. The sales figures of Gypsy in the Indian market depend mainly on the Indian Army and paramilitary forces.
Modern features and ample comfort features will be the highlights of the new compact Suzuki SUV. The car is light in weight, has a bold grille, unique headlights, big wheels and L-shaped tail lights. It is expect to go on sale in 2014 and could be priced around Rs. 8 lacs.
The vehicle would be positioned against Ford EcoSport and Renault Duster and Hyundai's upcoming small SUV. The Korean manufacturer's car might become an instant hit in the Indian market as the Indian consumers many prefer a diesel engine in a SUV. The compact SUV will be showcased as a concept and will go for production after couple of years. Therefore, Maruti has its task cut out for the SUV segment and will do well to focus on the cars in order to regain its lost market share.
