Recently a brand new Tata Nano caught fire while being driven from the showroom to owner’s place in Mumbai. Media and Tata critics had a field day reporting and commenting on the incident while Tata Motors related it as a ‘stray incident’. Now, another brand new Tata Nano caught fire when a fleet of 11 Tata Nanos were being driven from the Vadodra to a dealer in Makarpura. The car caught fire at the rear where it has its engine even before it was delivered to the dealer.

"One vehicle from a fleet of cars that was being transported to the dealer’s showroom caught fire on the way. We don’t know what led to the fire. We are investigating the cause of this fire. It was not sold to anybody,” said Tata Motors’ official spokesperson.

"We are investigating the cause of the fire but there is no design flaw with the car. The Nano has successfully passed all the national and international safety and durability certification," he added.

There were three incidents reported last year when Nano caught fire even in the parking lots due to faulty switches and the supplier had replaced the same in all models under production.
