Expected to be unveiled at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show or Detroit Motor Show, the Volvo S90 sedan has been snapped testing in Sweden. The Volvo S90 will borrow some styling cues, engines and technology from the Volvo XC90, which was previewed at the Los Angeles Auto Show in 2014.

Since the test mule was heavily camouflaged with body cladding, design details are still not clear. Though, it’s likely to be based on the Volvo’s new Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) that also underpins the new XC90. The sedan will feature a long vertically-slat chrome grille, the XC90-inspired signature ‘Thor Hammer’ T-shaped DRLs with LED headlamps, muscular stances and signature rear lighting. It will be slightly bigger than the S80 with 4,850mm of length, 1,860mm of width and 1,490mm of height. It will feature a wheelbase of 2,830mm.

The interior design of the S90 will share resemblance with the new-gen XC90. The sedan will get a large Sensus infotainment display, Orrefors gear level, Bower & Wiklins audio system, soft leather and wood trim. The Volvo S90 will feature the Drive-E 2.0-litre engine lineup – a 225bhp, D5 diesel, a 190bhp D4 diesel, a 254bhp, T5 petrol, a 320bhp, T6 petrol and a 254bhp, T5 petrol – that also powers the new XC90. A 400bhp, ‘T8 Hybrid’ engine will also be on offer, but only on the top-end variant. Transmission options on offer will be an 8-speed automatic, coupled with an optional Haldex AWD drive system.
