There is no denying that the next-generation Toyota Innova is one of the most anticipated vehicles that will be launched next year. Though, the vehicle will make its global debut by the end of 2015. According to a report, Toyota will stop production of the existing Innova in three months to create space for the next-generation. The report further says that the new Innova will be Rs. 1 lakh – Rs. 1.5 lakh pricier than the existing model.

While the new-gen Innova will be sold for a year to personal buyers only, the existing GX variant of the MPV will continue to be available for the commercial buyers. Powering the 2016 Innova will be an all-new ‘GD’ engine lineup – a 2.4-litre unit and a 2.8-litre engine – that will be manufactured at company’s new Karnataka-based engine plant.

Based on an all-new ladder-frame platform, the new Innova will be lighter yet stiffer than the current model. On the exterior, it will feature new grille with two chrome slats, revised front and rear bumpers, swept-back head-lamps with double-barrel projectors, integrated LED daytime running lamps, new fog lamps, pronounced wheel arches, multi-layered bootlid and new tail lamps.

Except a few additional fitments, the interior will remain largely unchanged. Safety features such as seven airbags, ABS (anti-lock braking system) with EBD (electronic brake-force distribution) and brake assist will be available only on top-end model.

Upon its launch, the 2016 Toyota Innova will rival against the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Renault Lodgy, Honda Mobilio and Nissan Evalia.
