Mercedes-Benz has revealed a design sketch of the 2016 Mercedes GLC that will make its global debut on June 17, 2015. The new Mercedes GLC will compete against the Volvo XC60, Audi Q5 and the upcoming BMW X3.

The new GLC is based on the MRA rear-wheel-drive platform that also underpins the C-Class. The compact crossover draws its design inspiration from the GLE Coupe Concept, which was showcased at the 2015 Shanghai Auto Show in April. On the front end, the car features 2-slat chrome grille, large air inlets and new LED headlamps with LED DRLs. Other styling elements include 5-spoke alloy rims, bold shoulder lines, wrap-around horizontal tail lamps, dual exhaust system and a roof spoiler.

The interior design of the GLC resembles to the C-Class, though it offers more generous rear legroom. Features on offer are ARTICO leather upholstery with silver and wood trim and updated Mercedes’ COMAND infotainment system with a free-standing touchscreen with a center tunnel integrated touchpad. While, the panoramic sunroof and multi-chamber air suspension AIR BODY CONTROL are optional.

The new-gen GLC will be available in three engine options – a 2.0-litre petrol, a 3.5-litre twin turbo V6 petrol and a 2.0-litre diesel. These engines are the same that power the C-Class. A GLC AMG Sport with 362bhp, twin-turbo V6 engine and a plug-in hybrid GLC 350e petrol variant will also be on offer. Power will be transmitted to all four-wheels via a 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission combined with a full-time 4MATIC AWD system.
