      VW Polo and Vento become dearer, price hiked by up to 2.27 per cent

      The Indian arm of Volkswagen, a well-appreciated German multinational auto giant, has declared a hike in prices of two of its popular models, Polo premium hatch and Vento sedan in the domestic passenger car market. The announcement came on January 28, 2013 in Mumbai and the price increase will be effective immediately.  The retail values of Volkswagen Polo and Vento models will be increased by up to 2.27 per cent in the country.

      Post the new price hike, the Volkswagen Polo will now be offered to domestic car buyers in a price range between Rs. 4.92 lakhs and Rs 7.08 lakhs. Further, the Vento sedan will now cost somewhere close to Rs 7.32 to 9.96 lakhs price tags (in the ex-showrooms of New Delhi). 
       
      Expressing his views on the latest price hike of Polo and Vento, Arvind Saxena, Managing Director (MD), Volkswagen Passenger Cars India, was quoted as saying, “Our aim has always been to give our customers a good value proposition and once again we are glad to be able to offer a good reason for them to buy these carlines.”
       
      Further, the German auto major has justified the latest hike decision on the backdrop of several additional features in its two products. The Volkwagen Polo premium hatch and Vento sedan will now come trimmed with a climatronic air conditioner, along with an advanced 2 DIN RCD 320 stereo system coupled with Bluetooth, USB, Aux in and SD card support. 
       
      At present, the Volkswagen Polo is pitched against Maruti Suzuki Swift, Hyundai i20, Fiat Grande Punto, Chevrolet Sail U-VA, Skoda Fabia and Honda Jazz amongst other in the premium hatchback segment of Indian auto market. The Volkswagen Vento also poses some stiff competition against Honda City, Skoda Rapid, Maruti Suzuki SX4, Hyundai Verna and Fiat Linea in the country. As per reports, both Polo and Vento have wrapped up impressive combined sales of 62,507 units in the Indian passenger car market during the 2012 calendar year.
