Indian subsidiary of Swedish car maker Volvo is set to launch the much-hyped second generation XC90 model in the country’s market next week, reports have claimed. The XC90 was unveiled in 2014 and created a lot of hype around the world. Since the first generation version of this car was launched over a decade ago, the next-gen version is expected to do well. As far as the Indian market is concerned, new Volvo XC90 will compete with the likes of BMW X5, Mercedes-Benz GL Class and Audi Q7. Furthermore, the second-generation will be the second car to be launched by the firm in 2015 after it introduced the V40 Cross Country in April.

This model will be available to customers in three variants including one diesel and two petrol models, all powered by 2.0-litre engines. In addition, there will be a plug-in hybrid variant of the XC90 called the T8. The diesel version of Volvo XC90, powered by a 2.0-litre turbo engine is capable of delivering an output of around 222 BHP along with peak torque of 470 Nm. Sources have claimed that this car will feature an eight-speed automatic transmission system.

Volvo, by all means, has ensured that the quantum of difference between the first-generation and the to-be-launched Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) is sizeable and recognisable. Based on the new Scalabale Platform Architecture (SPA) from Volvo, this utility vehicle is lighter in weight and has plenty of features. The interiors of this car feature a huge infotainment system which is capable of supporting both Android and Apple automobile devices.
