Volkswagen’s Vento sedan exported to Malaysia as a completely built unit from India has scored four points out of five in ASEAN NCAP test which was conducted in Malaysia. Sold in Malaysia as Polo sedan, the Malaysia-spec Vento shares striking similarity with the one available for sale in India. The only difference between Malaysia-spec and India-spec Vento is the additional side and dual front airbags offered on Polo sedan. Vento’s 1.6 litre trim with six-speed automatic transmission was assessed for safety. Vento scored four points in adult occupant and child occupant safety, lack of Electronic Stability Control feature in Vento was the only reason for not scoring full points in ASEAN NCAP test. However the high end version of Vento sold in India comes with ECS option.

Cars sold in India usually are not offered with ample safety features, however in international markets cars are well equipped with safety features to ensure safety of the passengers. It is imperative for vehicles sold in sold in European market to pass safety tests. Other significant markets like United States, Australia, New Zealand, Latin America and China also make vehicles undergo safety tests before they are made available for sale in respective markets. Under the New Car Assessment Program (NCAP), the car is evaluated for safety by crashing it in ascertained curbedambiance.
