Reputed business conglomerate Virgin Group is present in a lot of businesses, which includes aviation, railway, spacecrafts and cruise ships. However, the Richard Branson-led business group is yet to enter the car production vertical. Now, according to a report by Bloomberg, Branson has dropped hints about his company wanting to enter the car manufacturing process.

In a recent interview that revolved around Virgin Group’s contribution in the working of the Formula E Championship, Branson spoke about how they might eventually end up manufacturing electric cars altogether. Some sources suggest that the firm will be working on a car to challenge Tesla and Branson’s comment on people dedicated to the cause further verified the fact. Speaking about the Formula E Championship, he said, “We have teams of people working on electric cars. So you never know, you may find Virgin competing with the Tesla in the car business as we do in the space business."

He also spoke about “space business”, which automatically referred to the operation called “Virgin Galactic.” It aims to be the first concept in history that is going to offer travelling to sub-orbital space. Also, their primary rival in this vertical is Tesla-manufactured Space X.

The Virgin Group is not new to the “green” business and has made a lot of contributions in that particular direction. Their “Green Fund” lays focus on the development of fuel sources other than the regular ones. Thereby, it would not be a surprise if one sees Virgin enter the production of electric cars in the future. Also, Virgin Group is only following a trend that has started off late and involves several other big names. Technology giants Apple and Google are both looking into the production of electric cars and detailed studies are being done by both.
