Toyota recently launched the Wigo hatchback for the Philippines market. The car was unveiled by renowned singers Martin Nievera and Regine Velasquez at the Waterfront Hotel in Cebu. The Japanese car-maker intends on selling the car to the first time buyers in the country. Eric Viola, Product Planner for the Toyota Wigo, said at the event, “Before this, Toyota did not have model in the mini-hatchback segment and all of our competitors already had models there. We’re faced with motorization. We’re entering the phase of development where the purchases of vehicles increase. This is the perfect model for us to tap into that market.”

The Toyota Wigo is powered by 1-liter, three-cylinder, DOHC, 12-valve engine that generates about 64.11 Hp at 6,000 rpm and 85 Nm of torque at 3,600 rpm. The car is available in both automatic and manual transmission variants. The hatchback has not been tuned to burn rubber at traffic stops, it is more of an easy-goer that delivers modest efficiency figures and is aimed at first time buyer lot.

The interiors look fairly decent with light gray and dark gray – two tone theme. The hatchback is pretty spacious with ample headroom and legroom for its occupants. The dashboard is adorned with silver-frame instrument cluster, and a multi-information touch-screen display sends out timely updates to its users. Air conditioning is good and external noise has also been blocked to a considerable extent. The car sports side pockets in all four doors and the seat-back pockets that lets you stack up on everything that you would probably need during your journey.

On the exteriors, the Wigo looks decent and mature in the hatchback segment. The front fascia sports a bigger grill and snazzy fog lamps. The sides have received door moldings and chrome accented door handles. The rear is blessed with LED type high mount stop lamp. The car seems to be strongly footed on 14-inch alloy wheels. Wigo comes with electronic door locks, windows and rear view mirrors.

The Toyota Wigo hatchback is priced at P 499,000 for the manual version, whereas the automatic version is offered at P 534,000. The hatchback is available in shades of white, silver metallic, black, dark blue, grey metallic and light blue.
