Since Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), the Indian sub-division of Suzuki Motor Corporation, found potential in establishing manufacturing plant in Gujarat, most of the car makers are approaching for the same. Joining the league, Toyota Motor Corporation is also planning to set-up a facility in Gujarat under its completely owned Indian subsidiary, Toyota Kirloskar Motor Private Limited.

On the other hand, if the Toyota ends up with a conclusion to invest in this state, it will be considered as the 5th overseas auto maker to commence its operations in the western state of the country, which is growing at a brilliant pace. A group of Toyota’s expert had a business visit to Gujarat around two months before, which were exposed to three locations. An official of state government said, “They have seen Sanand, where Tata Motors already has a plant and Ford as well as Peugeot is in the process of setting up their units. They also visited Halol, where American car-maker General Motors runs a plant was another location.” However, a spokesperson of Toyota refused on growth.

Currently, Toyota is managing operations in India through its two manufacturing facilities, located in Karnataka. The combined production capacity of both of these units is around 2 lac vehicles per annum. However, the projected production unit is likely to seek an investment of around Rs. 4,000 crore. The company’s plan of setting up a new unit in Gujarat is further more realised because of the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC), which has a partnership of Japan. Owing to increase in demand in the domestic market, Toyota has planned to deliver its cars from India. The officials of Toyota had mentioned earlier that the company will expand it manufacturing capacity to 3, 10,000 vehicles by the end of 2013.
