Toyota India’s much awaited crossover, Etios Cross is ready to go on sale, buzz has it that the new vehicle from Toyota India’s stable will see light of the day on May 9th, 2014. Based on the Etios Liva platform, Etios Cross will be pitched against Volkswagen’s Polo Crossover. Toyota showed glimpse of the crossover at the 12th edition of Delhi Motor Show. Auto pundits opine that Toyota could price Etios Cross competitively, speculations suggest that Etios Cross could cost a tad more than Liva hatchback. The company will offer Etios Cross in two petrol and one diesel motors. Petrol variants will be equipped with a 1.2 litre and a 1.5 litre gasoline mills. Diesel trims will be powered by a 1.4 litre, four cylinder diesel powertrain.
Toyota has been witnessing low sales since last few months, in April 2014; company posted 8,328 unit sales as against 10,456 units sold in the same time last year. In March 2014 too Toyota registered as low as 9,160 unit sales as compared to 21,143 units in March 2013. The sudden change in trend of sales momentum could be because of lack of mass segment vehicles offered by Toyota in domestic market.
Besides Etios twins, Etios Cross would be the third vehicle from Toyota India’s stable to come with an affordable price tag. The company has high hopes from the new car slated to launch this week in India. Towards the end of May, the company is also expected to roll out refreshed version of its renowned premium sedan, Corolla Altis in domestic market.
