      Toyota and Maruti sales dip in January

      India's biggest car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki along with the Indian arm of the Japanese auto giant, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM), reported a decline in their total sales. Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) reported a drop of 10.3% in total sales in January, 2014 at 1,02,416 units as compared to 1,14,205 units in the same month last year. Whereas TKM reported a decline of 18.14% in its domestic sales at 10,910 units in January, 2014. TKM said in a statement that the company had sold 13,329 units in the corresponding month last year and exported 1,530 units of Etios. MSI, on the other hand, said its domestic sales declined by 6.3% during the month to 96,569 units as against 1,03,026 units in January, 2013.

      N Raja, Senior Vice- President, Sales and Marketing, TKM, said, "The market continues to be sluggish and the market sentiments remain low." He further added that the company will unveil the all new Corolla Altis and Etios Cross at the 2014 Auto Expo.
       
      Delving deeper into Maruti Sauzuki India's performance in January, 2014, the sales of its mini segment cars, including M800, Alto, A-Star and WagonR, declined by 17% while the sales of compact segment cars like the Swift, Estilo, and Ritz grew by 1.9%.
       
      MSI further said that sales of its popular compact sedan Dzire increased by 12.7% and its premium sedan Kizashi did not manage to sell a single unit during the month.
