The year 2014, like any other, is about to come to an end and analysts from all industries are currently in retrospective mode, contemplating why something was successful or what went wrong with the other. India’s automobile industry is no differently and 2014 saw the launch of a number of cars in the subcontinent with some of them claiming a lot of fame. Here is a list of the five cars that performed exceptionally well in 2014:
Honda City: Launched in January 2014, India’s favourite and most loved mid-sized sedan entered its fourth generation, creating tremendous buzz and hype. Honda City was introduced in a diesel version for the first time and achieved a lot of success. The sedan was appreciated for its attractive appearance, aerodynamics and efficient 1.5-litre engine (petrol and diesel).
Hyundai Xcent: The success of this model was ascertained much before its launch, mainly due to the platform Grand i10, the car on which it is based, had created. Just like Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire rode on the success of Swift and sold like hot pancakes, Xcent did so too. Appreciated for its performance and features, this car is currently giving competition to the Honda Amaze.
Honda Mobilio: The Japanese car maker’s resurgence continued in the Indian market and the Mobilio MUV showed exactly why the brand is on a roll in the sub-continent. Launched in both diesel and petrol versions, this model has earned superb reviews from critics and consumers alike.
Tata Zest: Zest compact sedan was exactly what the brand needed after struggling in the market for almost two years. Launched to compete with Honda Amaze and Swift DZire, this model has been raking the numbers since day one and is being widely appreciated for its performance and efficiency.
Toyota Etios Cross: Launched despite an element of acceptability risk to it, the Toyota Etios Cross proved to be a hugely successful model, getting the nod of approval from both critics and consumers.
