Mercedes-Benz, the German automobile manufacturer, has launched its new luxury SUV on 31st January 2012. With this launch, Mercedes-Benz has further strengthened its dominance in the Indian luxury automobile segment. This new SUV model would be available in the Indian automobile market in two variants, namely, Executive and Luxury. The Luxury variant would carry the price tag of Rs. 65.50 lacs (ex-showroom) whereas the Executive would cost Rs. 60.99 lacs (ex-showroom).
Debashis Mishra, Director, Sales & Marketing, Mercedes-Benz India, was present during the launch of company’s new product. He stated, "India has burgeoning potential in terms of demand for SUVs. The superior connectivity and improved road conditions are fuelling this growth. Mercedes-Benz is an aspirational brand and GL-Class has received very encouraging response from the customers since its launch in India.”
He added that GL ‘Grand Edition’ has been accordingly priced to compete against current leading SUV models. The company’s new product is set to attract majority of Indian SUV enthusiasts with its sporty look and luxurious interiors. The new model scores high in terms of space and comfort and has the seating capacity of 7 people.
The new GL-Class Grand Edition incorporates unique light-alloy wheels (20-inch tyres), dual-tone leather seats with black / maroon leather / porcelain and black upholstery. Front bumper with integrated LED daytime running lamps, dark-tinted head lamps, high-sheen louvers and new radiator grille are some of the impressive features that truly define the luxury SUV of the company. The assimilation of metallic paint finish, divided exhaust tailpipe trim, roof liner in black designo fabric, aluminium-look running boards (along with rubber studs), ambient lighting and heat-insulating and infrared-reflecting laminated glass gives extra edge to the vehicle.
Headrest for driver and front passenger, velour floor mats, easy-pack tailgate and electronically folding third row seat are some of the comfort and convenience features of the recently launched SUV model. The stand out feature of the Grand Edition is the inclusion of the Parktronic and Comand APS system along with a reversing camera that enables the driver to easily park the SUV in limited space.
The thermotronic luxury automatic climate control allows the owner of the new GL-Class Grand Edition to regulate the temperature according to the desire of front as well as rear passengers. As far as engine is concerned, the new product by Mercedes-Benz is equipped with a power-packed engine which has displacement of 2,987cc and produces maximum power of 224 hp and peak torque of 510 Nm. Moreover, this model can attain a top speed of 210 kmph.
The GL-Class Grand Edition has 4MATIC all-wheel drive system and 7G-TRONIC transmission system. In order to provide a hassle free drive, this model is incorporated with AIRMATIC air suspension at both the ends. The newly launched GL-Class Grand Edition would be competing against Audi Q7, BMW X5 and Land Rover Discovery 4.
