      Tata Nano receives international award for its design

      Country’s leading vehicle maker Tata Motors said on Thursday that its popular small car Tata Nano has bagged the "Good Design Award" for 2010, by the Chicago Athenaeum, in the category of transportation. Chicago Athenaeum is a Museum of Architecture and Design in collaboration with the European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.

      Further elaborating on the car’s design, the company said that Nano has been designed in a manner that it offers an incredibly spacious passenger compartment which is quite sufficient to accommodate four adult passengers.

      Despite having the smallest exterior footprint for a cars in India, Tata Nano is about 21 percent more spacious than the smallest car available today in the India market. Tata Nano’s exterior dimensions are as follows – length- 3.1 meters; height- 1.6 meters; width 1.5 meter.

      Tata Nano, which was launched in the Indian market in March 2009, is currently reporting its worst sales ever in the country. Last month, the Nano sales dipped to mere 509 units from a peak of 9,000 units in July this year, account a steep fall of 85 percent in its sales.

      Meanwhile, in a bid to salvage its small creation Nano, Tata Motors has offered a special finance scheme in India, by which customers will be able to get loan for Nano in just 48 hours. Earlier, the company has offered an extended warranty of 4 years (or 60,000 km) to all of the Nano’s existing and prospective customers.

      A few weeks back, the company had offered additional safety features to all 70,000 Nano customers after a series of (4 to 6) fire incidents in Nano model in different cities of the country.
