      Tata Motors global sales surged 11 percent in May 2011

      Tata Motors, the largest vehicle maker in the Indian market, stated on Wednesday that its global sales surged 11 percent in the month of May 2011. The company managed to sell 88,251 units during this month. The major contributor in this growth were high sales of vehicles of Jaguar & land Rover.

      The company said in a statement on Wednesday that the total sales of its British subsidiary Jaguar & Land Rover stood at 22,296 units during May, accounting for a jump of 17 per cent as compared to the units sold in the same month last year.

      The sales of Jaguar brand vehicles dipped 18 per cent to 4,221 units. On the other hand, the sales of Land Rover brand vehicles surged 30 percent to 18,075 units.

      The cumulative passenger car sales of Tata Motors surged to 44,181 units in May 2011, accounting for a moderate growth of 2 percent. On the other hand, the commercial vehicle sales of the company surged 20 percent to 44,070 units, as compared to sales figures in the same month last year.

      Globally, Tata Motors sells vehicles through a number of brands including Tata, Tata passenger vehicles, Tata Daewoo and Hispano Carrocera range of commercial vehicles and distributed brands in India, Jaguar and Land Rover
