On April 04, 2012, Tata Motors came out with a statement that repudiated a report in Economic Times regarding the discontinuation of Tata Indica, Sumo Spacio and Indigo Marina as well as migration of production from Pune to Sanand.

The statement issued by Debasis Ray, the head of Corporate Communication at Tata Motors said, “Tata Motors does not have any plans of 'de-emphasising' the Tata Indica. Besides introducing the second generation Tata Indica Vista, the company has also introduced, for example, more fuel efficient Tata Indica models, like the Tata Indica eV2 which at 25 kmpl offers the highest fuel efficiency among diesel cars in India.”

According to the release, the company's practise included continually bringing changes into its line up centred on internal technology development and consumer requirements. It also stated that Tata Motors has well formulated strategies in place regarding its vehicle portfolio, which includes Nano Indica, Indica Vista, Indigo, Indigo Manza, Sumo, Safari and Aria models. These will continue to be produced and sold in the market in line with the car maker's plans.

The release also said that the manufacturer has no plans to start developing any other car at its Sanand, Gujarat plant except the Nano. The world's cheapest car will continue to be produced at this unit, while the company's Pune, Maharashtra facility will be utilised to roll out other passenger vehicles sold by the Indian auto giant.

Tata Nano's sales have reached a high of 10,000 units in March 2012, which shows the buyers' positive sentiments towards the 2012 edition of the car. The ever-increasing distribution network of car, exclusive dealers and unique marketing initiatives have been attributed towards the success of the vehicle. The company said that optimum capacity utilisation of its Sanand plant would be achieved as the car's sales increase. It also refuted reports of using a common platform for Tata and Jaguar Land Rover vehicles.
