The Germany based leading car maker Volkswagen is gearing-up to the snatch the top car maker’s position in the global market from current leaders like US based General Motors and Japanese Toyota Motors. The company is aiming to be the largest car maker in the world by year 2018. Besides expanding its portfolio in the global market, the company is also looking forward to grab a major chunk of car sales through its subsidiaries like Skoda.
The Czech Republic based subsidiary Skoda is aiming to grow twice as fast as its parent Volkswagen. While the brand has already has a strong presence in the premium segment with the models like Skoda Superb and Wagon, it is now planning to become the next people’s car after Volkswagen by launching new small car – Skoda Citigo in the market. The Citigo model is going to be priced at $10,000 in the Skoda’s base market Czech Republic. Moreover, the car maker has high expectations with the hatchback Fabia, which is already doing well in the global market.
With aggressive plans of expanding its global portfolio, the company is planning to add two new car models in its portfolio every year. The plan is to achieve a sales surge of 84% by year 2018. The company is aiming to achieve a sales mark of 1.41 million by this time, from the current sales figures of 768,000 units.
