New generation model of Skoda Auto's best selling Octavia is all set to hit the Indian car market during the festive season this year. The production of the model has already started at the Czech car maker's Aurangabad facility where its current models like Superb, Yeti and Laura are manufactured. On the onset of launch Sudhir Rao, Managing Director of Skoda Auto India was quoted as saying “The ‘Octavia’ model line launched Skoda in the country 12 years ago and has enjoyed a cult status in India ever since. Since then Skoda has come a long way in the Indian market and the Octavia has always been the heart of our brand. Now, with the new-generation Octavia, which will be introduced in India during the festival season, we promise all of this and much more.”
In a statement Skoda's Chief Executive Officer, Winfried Vahland was quoted as saying, “The new Skoda Octavia is now being produced at purpose-built facilities in one of the international growth markets. By far our most important model in the Indian market is also an engine of growth for Skoda.” The company is re-introducing the famous model, which debuted in India during 2001. Since then it enjoyed an overwhelming response and was later discontinued in October 2010. During the time period of 2001 and 2010, the company sold over 44,000 units. Vahlant also said “At its premier in 2001, the first Octavia redefined its segment in India.”
The new third generation Skoda Octavia will be provided with high end functionality, added security features and brilliant fuel efficiency, as claimed by the company. It is being widely said that the new Skoda Octavia will be provided with two fuel options, namely petrol and diesel. The petrol engine will be powered by a 1.8-litre TSI turbo petrol motor while the diesel one will be equipped with a TDI turbo diesel motor. In addition, a less power engine variant of the model will also be offered for the Indian car market but it is expected to roll out for the democratic buyers at a later stage. It is also anticipated that the vRS version of third generation Octavia, which is readying for its launch in the International market, will soon be available in India. Industry experts are of a view that the car might be provided with a more powerful engine, along with sportier looks and sharper styling.
It must be noted that Skoda Auto India has registered a stable growth since its inception in the Indian car market in 2001. In 2012, the company had shown a steady progress, registering a growth of 13 per cent despite tough market conditions and declining consumer sentiment. So with the company all set to introduce its premium seller Octavia, which will be loaded with enhanced features, the future seems bright for the Czech-based auto maker that is faring quite well in the Indian car market from its Superb and Rapid models.
